Description

NWHiker is a companion app to the NWHiker.com website, which is a personal collection of hikes in the Pacific Northwest area (Oregon and Washington). The app allows the hikes on NWHiker.com to be searched by various criteria, and has a presentation customized for an iOS device. The hikes can be filtered by region, difficulty, elevation gain, and distance, and can be further searched by hike name, and by keyword for hike features such as old growth, snowshoe, swim, loop, flowers, falls, wildlife, geology, view, historic, lookout, ridge, and more. Each hike is outlined with a photo, map, and description. Statistics, directions, drive times to the trailhead, and permit requirements are also included. For more information on the source of the hikes, see the About Us page at NWHiker.com.

Ok list

It needs bookmarks. We heard about a hike, found it in the app and would like to bookmark it for later.

Also, it should be useful for navigation on the trail.

Pretty good but needs more...

This is a good app that was a much needed mobile addition/extension of the very informative and useful NWHiker.com website. However, this app needs better filtering tools, specifically a geolocating function. Instead of and/or in addition to having to make all the filtering choices on the main page, how about showing a map with all the hike options. Or after you select all your options how about providing an option to view the results on a map in addition to the list view. The result list is great but w/out the option to see those results on a map view, you’re left going to each individual result to see where they are. I’ve used the web version of this app for many years as the information has always been excellent. This mobile app version is good but it could be great w/ some upgrades. Thx.

Tourism maps

It isn’t that I spent $2.99 on an app; it’s that after I downloaded it I discovered it’s a crappy tourist map I can’t use offline backpacking and then that’s 5 mins of my life I will never get back.
